Early skin cancer detection and treatment save lives

Comprehensive skin checks

Led by Dr Ben Gaunt, our Skin Clinic supports patients from Devonport, Takapuna, Bayswater, and the wider Auckland area. Whether you’re keeping an eye on sun damage or have a suspicious mole, we’re here to help.
We offer:
  • Full-body skin checks using dermatoscopy
  • Assessment and monitoring of moles and lesions
  • Minor surgical procedures, including biopsies and excisions
  • Ongoing follow-up and personalised care
Appointments are available to both enrolled and casual patients. No referral is needed.

Why get checked?

New Zealand has some of the highest skin cancer rates and skin cancer-related deaths in the world. Every year, around 80,000 Kiwis are diagnosed with skin cancer.

Thankfully, early detection makes treatment more effective. Melanoma, for instance, has an 85% cure rate when found early.

We recommend regular skin checks every 1–2 years, or sooner if you notice:

  • A mole that’s changing in shape, colour, or size
  • A spot that looks different from the others
  • A non-healing sore or bleeding lesion
If you live in Devonport or anywhere in Auckland and spend time outdoors, a skin check is one of the best ways to protect your long-term health.

What to expect at your skin check appointment

Depending on your needs, we offer two types of skin checks:

Spot checks

If you’ve noticed one or more new or changing lesions, a spot check is a quick and targeted assessment of up to five areas of concern. It’s ideal if you’re keeping an eye on specific moles or have recently noticed something different about your skin.

Full-body skin checks

For a comprehensive review of your skin, a full-body check covers your entire skin surface from head to toe. This includes areas that are harder to see yourself, such as your back, scalp, or behind your ears.
Dr Ben uses a dermatoscope for close inspection of lesions and will talk you through anything that needs monitoring or further action. You’ll have the chance to ask questions, and your comfort and privacy are always prioritised.

Minor surgery

If a suspicious mole or lesion needs removal, minor procedures can often be performed onsite. This includes punch biopsies, shave biopsies, or excisions.
Dr Ben will walk you through the recommended approach, explain the procedure, and answer any questions you may have. Aftercare instructions will be provided, and follow-up arrangements will be made as needed to ensure safe healing and clarity on any results.
